Understanding Professional Football In The UK

If you live in the UK then you are lucky enough to get to watch and experience professional football as often as you want. Most people aren't as lucky as you are and only get to see the top level footballers play on T.V. or in the highlight real on a sports show. Now if you love the game of football then you probably get to watch it on a daily basis, but do you know exactly what you are watching?

When it comes to professional football in the UK there are many leagues, many cups, and even more small tournaments that are played throughout the year. All of these are played throughout the year and most of the time you would never know that one of the games was a cup final or just a regular friendly. I know how difficult this can be sometimes and because of that I want to help you out by giving you a little bit of insight on the leagues, the cups and the tournaments.

Leagues

For sake of time and keeping you awake I will not bore you with all the leagues but I do want to make sure you know which is the best and why and so forth. There are hundreds of leagues all interlinked together that make up over a thousand different divisions which means there are over 500 teams in this one main league. Do you see why I don't want to bore you know?

Each league has it's own cup but I am sure you knew that already. The top league in the United Kingdom is the Premier League which is some to Manchester United and Liverpool, two of the world's most respected clubs. The Premier League is where every team wants to be and has the chance to compete there if they are good enough. The way that you get moved around from the lower level leagues to the top league are by winning your league. If a team on a lower level league wins the league one year then they will be brought up to compete in a more competitive league where their skills can be matched better. In the other event that a club does poorly they will be moved down into one of the lower leagues in order to be able to play against clubs that are more at their level.

As you can see the leagues in the United Kingdom are more than just a few different brackets of clubs, there are thousands of teams all fighting to be on the top of their respective leagues. Another thing I want to make sure you know is that along with the Premier League there is also a Scottish Premier League that has many great clubs and players but is just more towards the Scotland area. If you know much about Scotland then you know the clubs there are putting up a big fight to be the best in the league. Now don't think we are done yet, check out part two of this three part series of professional football in the United Kingdom.
